The Short Version
Why gates decide whether a fence works
The gate is the part of a perimeter that moves, gets used hundreds of times a week, and gets hit by vehicles. It is also the part most often under-built. A gate that drops, binds on the ground or won't latch turns a secure boundary into an open one within a couple of years.
A gate is only as good as what it hangs on. Gate posts carry a cantilevered load every time the leaf swings, so they're sized and footed heavier than the line posts either side of them. The leaf itself needs to be braced against sag, the hinges need to suit the weight and the duty cycle, and the ground under the swing arc has to be right or the gate will foul as the site settles.
We build gates as part of the fence rather than as an afterthought - matching profile, matching finish, and specified around the vehicles or foot traffic that will actually use them. Every fencing system we install can carry matching gates: steel picket, spear top, palisade, chainwire, aluminium and Colorbond.

Wide leaves sag. Past about 3m a side, the leaf needs bracing or you will be adjusting it every year.

The things people actually ask us before they commit to a job.
It comes down to space. A double swing gate needs a clear arc and reasonably level ground in front of it. If the approach slopes, the opening is very wide, or there's traffic parked near the entry, a sliding gate is usually the better answer - provided there's run-back room beside the opening.
